Grandfather Clock Repair & Servicing

Trusted, meticulous servicing for grandfather, longcase and premium wall clocks — in our Brunswick workshop, with on-site assessment available for larger pieces.

Why grandfather clocks need specialist care

A grandfather clock’s weight-driven movement, long pendulum and striking train put different demands on a clockmaker than a mantel clock. Incorrect beat setting or a poorly levelled case are two of the most common reasons a longcase clock stops or strikes incorrectly — issues that are easy to misdiagnose without specialist experience.

We service the movement off-site in our workshop using the same ultrasonic cleaning, pivot burnishing and Swiss Mobius oiling used across all our restoration work, then return, install and regulate the clock in your home.

Common grandfather clock repairs

  • Chiming and striking faults — incorrect hour counts, missed chimes, or trains that run down unevenly.
  • Weight line and cable replacement on cable or chain-driven movements.
  • Pendulum and suspension spring issues affecting timekeeping accuracy.
  • Case restoration — French polishing, veneer repair and brass dial restoration.
  • Full movement overhauls for clocks that have not been serviced in many years.

In-home assessment, workshop-based servicing

For most grandfather clocks we remove and service the movement in our workshop, where we have the correct equipment and bench-testing conditions, then return to re-install, level and regulate the clock in your home — so it keeps accurate time from day one.
